thegeorge, according to the brand's website (https://nelliesclean.com/shop/laundry-soda/) it seems they suggest this product can be used as a detergent and that is why we have categorized it this way.

Washing soda isn’t a detergent, it’s a whitener or booster or stain remover. Categorizing it correctly will help in searches.

I love Nellies! With a house full of 4 kiddos, we need clean clothes. Nellies is amazing. I use Nellies soda and their oxygen brightener in each load and then 4-6 wool dryer balls in the dryer. Our clothes are super soft, smell fresh but scent free and it does not bother my extensive list of allergies. Very happy!
