What is it?
Povidone Iodine is a germicide and antiseptic found in topical antiseptics used to treat skin and mucous membrane infections.
How can I avoid it?
Avoidance requires reading product labels, package inserts, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and, on occasion, direct communication with the manufacturer.
Uses:
- Preoperative preparation for skin and hands (swabs, sticks, and wipes)
- First antiseptic kills germs promptly in minor cuts, scrapes, and burns (sprays, powders, and solutions)
- Treatment of vaginitis (douches)
- Eye drops for newborns
- Wound care for decubitus and stasis ulcers
- Pet care preparations
